It is hard to see it this way when in are in full combat mode, but without conflicts there would be no victories. And even though victories may be quickly forgotten, the sweetness they bring will fuel us for the next challenge.
What we should always remember is that victory does not always mean trump your adversary: sometimes the peace that comes from compromise or forgiveness is the sweetest victory of all.
Would Thomas Paine agree? The jury is out.
