I can definitively agree with this quote, even if I certainly do not enjoy physical pain. However, mental pain, feels worse: it eats at you day after day, and it is so much harder to fight.
Despite the recent burst of attention due to celebrity suicides, mental illness, addiction and depression in particular, are still stigmatized and misunderstood. This is should not happen anymore, since so many are affected.
Many songs have been written about it, but I really like “A reason to fight” from the band Disturbed. Listen to the words…they ring so true. In a recent interview the band explained the meaning of the song:
“I know people who’ve battled addiction and have seen it in their face — the shame they have — feeling they’ve let themselves and others down,” Donegan added. “We wanted to write a song with a positive message for people in that situation to stay hopeful and not give up the fight, as challenging as it may be.
